Allianz Care Overseas Student Health Cover Plans

Allianz Care provides several health cover options for you, depending on the type of visa you have. Whether you’re an overseas student, guardian of a student or a recent graduate who is temporarily living and working in Australia, Allianz Care has a health cover plan for you.

Cover for 500 Student Visa

Allianz Care OSHC offers three plans for students studying in Australia:

  • Single - This only covers overseas students who hold the 500 Student Visa.
  • Dual Family - This provides cover for the overseas student and partner. Or it can cover the overseas student and any dependent children.
  • Multi-Family - This provides cover for an overseas student, partner and their dependent children.

590 Guardian Visa

An international student under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult when they come to Australia for their studies. The Student Guardian (Subclass 590) visa allows you to visit Australia for up to 5 years to support a child who holds a student visa. Allianz Care provides cover plans for student guardians visiting Australia.

485 Graduate Visa

If you are an international student who has recently graduated from an Australian educational institution, the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa allows you to live, study and work in Australia temporarily. Allianz Care offers Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) for 485 visa holders in the form of single, dual-family or multi-family policies.

What Does Allianz Care OSHC Cover?

Allianz Care OSHC provides cover for medical basics while you are studying in Australia. This includes emergency ambulance transport, private and public hospital admissions, doctors and specialists (outside of a hospital), x-rays, blood tests and prescription medicines.

Ambulance

As an overseas student, your Allianz Care health insurance will cover 100% of the charge for transport by an ambulance (provided by or under an arrangement with an approved ambulance service) when it’s medically necessary for admission to a hospital or for emergency treatment.

Hospital Admissions (Private & Public)

With Allianz Care, our OSHC policy covers 100% of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) Fee for medical services provided during your stay in hospital. If you’re in a public hospital, you’ll receive shared ward accommodation for an overnight or same-day hospital stay. You can also receive private hospital accommodation, but this is only for hospitals that have a contracted rate with the Australian Health Services Alliance.

Medical Tests (X-rays and Blood Tests)

Allianz Care will cover 85% of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fee for X-rays and blood tests. Please note that the benefit amount may vary depending on the type of medical service.

Prescription Medicine

Allianz Care will help you pay for some prescription medicine if it is listed in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). We’ll pay you the difference between the PBS patient co-payment and the amount you paid for the medicine - up to a maximum of $50 per item. This is also subject to annual limits of $1,000 for families and couples and $500 per year for singles.

Extras

Allianz Care Australia OSHC standard cover does not include dental, optical, physiotherapy or other extras treatments. We provide an optional health insurance policy (OSHC Extras) that covers things like getting physiotherapy, new reading glasses or having your teeth cleaned by a dentist.
